Cape Breton Island
- The main inhabitants of this area are from 5 backgrounds; Scottish, Mi’kmaq, Acadian, Irish and English. All of their respective languages (Scottish Gaelic, Mi’kmaq and Acadian French) are still spoken to some degree and have lent to the unique English language Cape Breton accent today.
- The island makes up 18% of Nova Scotia’s landmass and has a variety of terrain types including highlands, lowlands, a mountain range, salt marshes, fens and bogs.
- Popular things to see and do include a scenic coastal drive around the Cabot Trail, whale watching, Fortress of Louisbourg and a plethora of hiking trails and camping spots.
